What is a t-shirt quilt?  It is a quilt made from someone's t-shirts. It is a keepsake quilt.

How are they made?  I take apart the t-shirt and stabilize the portion that will go into the quilt. Sashing(fabric strips)is sewn between blocks and between rows. An outer border is added and the quilt top is sandwiched with batting and backing and machine quilted on my longarm machine. It is then bound and ready for you.

What kind of quilting do you do on a t-shirt quilt?  Usually a meandering stitch or swirl stitch is used or it can be custom quilted.

What kind of fabric do you use?  I use a solid high quality 100% cotton in the sashing, border and backing. You can choose the color or let me choose. Also, you may supply your own fabric if you want something special. Contact me for amount needed as it varies with the size of the quilt. If you are wanting to use school logos or licensed fabrics, due to licensing laws, you must provide the fabric.

Preparation of t-shirts

Wash and dry shirts. Do not use any softener -liquid or sheets. This will prevent the stabilizer from adhering to the shirts.

Do Not cut shirts apart. I will take care of that. Normally, I will not return unused portions of your t-shirts . If you want them, please let me know in advance.

Costs

The basic charge is $15 per t-shirt block. This is based on an approximate 14" square.  If two smaller blocks are combined to make one large block, there is an extra $5 charge for each combination. 

Shipping charges are $20 per quilt (if needed) and will be added once complete. 

When your t-shirt quilt is finished, I will contact you requesting the final balance which will include the shipping. Unfortunately, at this time, I can only accept cash, money order or check. If you  pay by check, allow 10 days for the check to clear before I ship your t-shirt quilt. Checks should be made to Bluebonnet Quiltery.

Turn around time, start to finish, is approximately 2 to 3 months. No excuses, just lots of steps involved.
