BACKING

Bluebonnet Quiltery, at this time, does not provide backing. I do have some suggestions or tips for your backing.

Your backing must be at least 6 inches wider and 6 inches longer than your quilt top. Example: your top measures 50 inches by 60 inches.  Your backing should be 56 inches by 66 inches.

Your backing must be square and all edges even. Puckers could be quilted into the back if not square and even.  There is an additional charge if I have to square your backing.

Also, it needs to be pressed. If pressing is needed, the cost is $7.00 for front and $7.00 for backing.

When you are deciding on the backing for your top, consider a 'busy' print. However, it is not recommended to put a dark backing with a light top or viceversa.  Also, consider the thread color to be used in the quilting. If you choose a variegated thread for the top, a coordinating solid will be used on the back. If using a solid color, both top and bottom will be the same.  This is done to avoid "pokies" showing on your top or backing.

If you are piecing the backing, make sure that all selvage edges are removed. Leaving them on will cause the quilt (when complete) to pucker when washed. Use a generous 1/2" seam and press open. Pressing open eliminates bulk and does not affect the stability of your backing.

Be aware that there are many wide backs/fat backs that are available for your use. Check with your local quilt shop or shop online.
