My name is Dianne Davenport. I have been a quilter for 25+ years. In the early days, I hand quilted. But as I became more prolific in making quilt tops, hand quilting went away. Enter quilting on the sewing machine. After several small quilts on my dsm (domestic sewing machine), I tried a large quilt. Oh the shoulder and back discomfort. Then I found someone to machine quilt my tops. About seven years ago, I started looking at buying a longarm for myself. I did just that six years ago. Right before I retired from education. I had been in the classroom for 23 years and in a school library for 13 years. That's 36 years in education.
Now I quilt professionally using a Gammill Optimum Plus with IQ. My studio is in a building next to my home in Brenham, Texas - the Home of Blue Bell Ice Cream. Yum!
I love what I do. I enjoy seeing the quilt patterns and fabrics and the way my customers put them together. I also teach beginning quilting and other classes at my lqs (local quilt shop). I enjoy passing on my knowledge of piecing and sharing quilting ideas.
I belong to three quilt guilds, am co-founder of CTXLA (Central Texas LongArmers), TIQ(Texas Intelliquilter), and am a member of IMQA (International Machine Quilters Association). I attend the International Quilt Festival/Market in Houston and MQS (Machine Quilters Showcase) in Overland Park, KS on a regular basis. I subscribe/read three longarm quilting magazines plus other quilting magazines.
